On a remote hillside in Turkey lies a mysterious rock formation believed to be the physical remains of Noah’s Ark. Join scientists as they determine if this site contains biblical remains, or if there are other more likely geological explanations.

In the Fall of 2019, Concrete GPR founding partner Jeff Sohlstrom traveled to Turkey as part of a multidisciplinary team to investigate an anomaly on the south side of Mount Ararat.  Despite rising political tensions between the United States and Turkey, which hit a fever pitch the week before they would depart, the team was granted passage and guarded access to the protected site.  In addition to our ground penetrating radar expertise, the team included expert reality capture scanning from ToPa3D, geologists, theologians, and archaeologists (IMDb).

Technical Details

For this project we used a modular Sensors & Software Noggin system with two different antennas.  First dataset with the 100MHz antenna provided maximum depth data.  Second dataset with the 250 MHz antennas provided higher resolution data in the near-surface.  All data samples were recorded with RTK corrected GPS/GNSS.  After post-processing, the GPR data was ultimately integrated with the above-ground point cloud model created by the laser scanning team.
